Survival Plan
A few days ago, it was on the news that a tsunami would hit our island. At first the plan was clear, leave the island as soon as possible and if possible by plane. However, all the tickets were too expensive and they were all taken. We must also add that several airlines decided to cancel their flights and by sea there was no option. Because of this, both my family and many friends and acquaintances tried to think of a plan to survive. Fortunately (if in a situation like this there can be luck), when that news came out we were all the students of the CF18 in the workshop.
It was an ordinary day in class, until Vicente left alarmed. He told us about the danger that was coming upon us and we began to think about trips or possible escape routes, but these were frustrated by the problems mentioned above. We had no choice but to stay on the island and we had to think of a plan. Honestly, the first plans were very unfortunate, for example Manel proposed to build a refuge in the Puig Major, although the tsunami had waves of more than 4,000 m (larger than El Teide), so we had to discard it. Dani proposed to go to Sóller and take refuge in its tunnel, but unfortunately the tsunami came from the northwest and Sóller would be one of the first towns to be flooded. We even tried to repair the Turbo Commander and fly until the catastrophe happened, but none of us knew how to pilot it. Finally, after so many discards, we agreed to make an underground shelter or a kind of cave. In addition, we plan to do it on the slope of the Puig de Randa because it is in the center of the island and with the help of the Sierra de Tramuntana the tsunami would lose some strength.
The idea of building a cave seemed absurd, but after seeing all the tools we had and materials we decided to build it. With the help of shovels, drills and other tools we could dig without many problems but up to a certain limit. Fortunately, after excavating more than 30 m inside the Puig de Randa, we were able to find a huge and very spacious cave in which we could be safe and with our loved ones. In addition, inside this cave there was water and small streams facilitating many things. We use columns and beams to reinforce the structure of the cave.
We also try to illuminate it as much as possible and make it habitable.
Between all we managed to gather many provisions, important things that we had to keep and above all electric motors to have supply for several weeks. We also get oxygen cylinders to prevent. We only had to obstruct all the possible entrances from the outside so that the cave would not be flooded too much. We put a lot of rocks and tried to make multi-layered walls to make everything compact.
I am writing this when the tsunami is one hour away from reaching Mallorca. I hope our plan works and we can all survive this catastrophe together, and I also hope that these are not my last words. And if it goes wrong remember us as heroes.
